A Stunning Kitchen Makeover !!

As always I am super excited to share one of our recent projects with you and this one is beautiful! Our client wanted to update her kitchen, she is fond of shades of whites which is carried throughout her home.  We wanted to keep the space light and bright but also introduce some soft colour to complement what was existing but also make her new kitchen pop. We used Benjamin Moore's Woodlawn Blue on the upper walls and cloud white on all of the trim and molding which gives it just the right amount of colour but still keeps it soft and airy. We also used this pretty color in accents and the roman shades as well.

We decided to keep the existing layout of the kitchen and reface the cabinet doors. We also had these sprayed out in cloud white to match the trim and molding. We also added new antique brass hardware to pull it all together. We altered the kitchen island by making it all one height (the breakfast bar was originally raised higher and made it feel cluttered and closed in). The space now feels much more open and updated, we added new countertops, farmhouse sink, bridge faucet and white marble arabesque mosaic backsplash which if I do say so myself looks gorgeous!

As with any space lighting is key and we added new pendant lights over the island, we incorporated the antique brass and soft white look in the new lights which really ties everything together. We also added a new chandlier and under cabinet lighting as well.

I am a big fan of reusing some existing pieces, if possible in my client's homes. It often adds some unique character  but may require some updating to go with their new space. My client happened to have a couple of existing pieces in her kitchen that were perfect for the space but needed to be restyled to fit our new look. So we had them refinished  by Mango Reclaimed! We started with the jam cupboard, I decided to incorporate the warm white but also add an under paint of black to add some depth and to tie it in with their family room. We then had the desk restyled in milk paint in a soft grey on the bottom half which works with the new countertops and roman shades. The top was kept natural and enhanced with dark wax. We added new hardware to both pieces and I think they turned out beautifully! I also had a new calendar made for them (by the talented Melanie from Mango Reclaimed) which is now not only functional but pretty too and her existing canisters were done in chalk paint and all I have to say is wow!

So the last few things we did in this home were in the family room which was already quite lovely but we added some new lighting particularly the gorgeous chandlier which really shows off the cathedral ceiling and some pretty lamps from Penney and Co, new custom throw pillows, and a new mirror from Mango Reclaimed's inventory and what happened next? Well I'll let you be judge.. take a look at the pictures below!

I hope you enjoyed this one as much as I have enjoyed working on it! Let us know what you think of the space and if you are looking to renovate or just spruce up your space give us an email or a call and we'd be happy to book you a consultation!!

Wishing you a very Happy Sunday! xo

Before & After

So we started this project the way we start every project with a vision board and some inspiration. My inspiration for this one came directly from our client Tammy, who is one of the sweetest ladies I've had the pleasure of working with!

Her space had great bones already to start with (I've added some pics below), so I knew this would be a fun and beautiful transformation.

I could tell immediately how much family meant to her as she explained to me how they gather at her house every Tuesday night to have dinner together and catch up. She also explained to me that she frequently had her granddaughter over and had another one on the way. So I knew the space had to be beautiful, functional and child friendly. So everything we did was done with her family and grandchildren in mind. We had the her dining room furniture lovingly restyled in chalk paint by Mango Reclaimed. I added a beautiful vintage looking chandelier from a local shop and brass shelving from pottery barn. We also added a bar cart for extra storage.  I recovered the chairs in a pinstripe cream and navy fabric and choose some beautiful ready made drapes in our accent colour mustard yellow. I think it came together beautifully- what do you think? Take a look at a few pics below...

The space also had to house a lot more storage than she had currently, as with any older home storage space is always at a minimum especially when you take down walls and remove cabinents. Take a look below at some clever ways we added some more storage to her space.  I added a new custom upholstered ottoman from urban barn that opens and now she can store all of her grandkids toys. I also selected a vintage sideboard from Mango Reclaimed's awesome inventory and had Melanie restyle it in zeplin which is a lovely rich grey colour-I think it turned out perfect. It not only looks great but is also good for housing all of their components for their tv and other items that you don't want to see out on display. We also recovered her couch in a grey textured fabric which  I sourced and had custom throw pillows made to accent it.

I  definently can not forget to talk about the beautiful flooring we choose for this space, it is a pre oiled hardwood floor made in Quebec! It is absolutely stunning, it has a great feel and will never have to be sanded ever! Every ten years you simply apply an oil to bring it back to life! I love that has it has a great blend of dark and light tones and gives a really elegant yet rustic and timeless look. We also added a beautiful  oversized porcelain tile that looks like marble to the front entrance way and had it laid in staggered angle pattern.

Last but definently not least is this kitchen... Wow what a difference! We replaced the countertops with a beautiful cesarstone counter. It looks like marble but is much more durable and functional for everyday living. We added a marble mosaic backsplash and had the oak cabinents sprayed out in a beautiful grey colour. I added hints of antique brass with pulls and knobs. I also added an island that gives her more counter space but also provides storage below but still keeping it light and airy.  As with any small space you want to keep it as open as possible so you don't feel closed in. The pendant lighting is spectacular, I love the mix of black, white and brass it just pulls everything together!

Sorry for such a long post but it was so hard not to share with you every nook and corner of this reno... I just adore everything thing about it and there are so many little touches, I could go on and on and on!! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do and we'd love to hear what you think so don't be afraid to post a comment or send us an email at info@theinspirationnest.com
